- Rosita Copper Project, Nicaragua
Alder Resources Ltd. has entered into an option agreement to acquire 65% of the Rosita D concession located in the historic Mining Triangle of northeast Nicaragua.
The Rosita D concession consists of an area of 3,356 hectares and is located 275 kilometres northeast of the capital city of Managua with road access to the port at Puerto Cabezas, located 120 kilometres to the east.
Historic production is estimated at 245 million pounds of copper, 160,000 ounces of gold and 2,610,000 ounces of silver from 5.4 million tonnes. This was achieved from the Santa Rita open pit and, to a lesser extent, the R-13 open pit. Average historic grades from the copper-gold-silver skarn mineralization at the mine were calculated at 2.06% copper, 0.93 g/t gold and 15.08 g/t silver (Arengi, 2003). The mine closed in 1975 due to low copper prices.
Alder has completed 55 reverse circulation drill holes totalling 1,400 metres at the old mine dumps. Results from the initial 24 holes returned a weighted average grade of 0.71% Cu, 0.66 g/t Au and 8.2 g/t Ag over an average thickness of 14.0 metres. Also, a bedrock hole collared along the south side of the Santa Rita pit returned 12.0 metres grading 0.91% Cu, 1.00 g/t Au and 16.63 g/t Ag. The RC rig has been converted to core and there are now 2 diamond drill rigs testing the areas around the Santa Rita and R-13 pits. Vertical channel sampling of the mineralized dumps at Santa Rita by Alder (in quarter 4 of 2011) returned average values of up to 2.27% total copper, 1.76% soluble copper, 2.37 g/t gold and 24.60 g/t silver. The average grades for 17 sample traverses are 0.55% total copper, 0.28% soluble copper, 0.47 g/t gold and 8.73 g/t silver. Historic diamond drill intercepts below the Santa Rita pit returned up to 2.27% copper, 0.21 g/t gold and 30.85 g/t silver over 16.7 metres true width at a vertical depth of 225 metres below the assumed base of the pit.
The Rosita deposit is open to depth and along strike.
The Bambana prospect is located four kilometres northwest of the Santa Rita open pit. In 2010 Calibre completed three drill holes that returned intercepts of up to 0.43% copper and 6.54 g/t silver over 42.0 metres and 0.51% copper and 0.25 g/t gold over 11.5 metres. The potential to expand on this mineralization is excellent.
